How to Create Calm for an Anxious Animal using Holistic Methods - 3 Top Tips
Nov 15, 2024One of the areas I focus on in my animal communication and healing work, is how to create calm for an anxious animal. If you have an anxious animal in your life, you may have found it difficult to soothe them when they're upset. Anxiety can be a complex issue with multiple issues underlying it or it might be that an animal is anxious because of a specific trigger, like fireworks. Whatever the cause or reason for anxiety, working on creating more calm is a positive step that can help to reduce overall stress for everyone involved.
Here are three simple holistic methods for you to try:
- Check in with yourself. How calm are you?
Remember that your animal can pick up on your emotions and feelings. If your energy is busy or you're feeling stressed, you can unwittingly transmit this to your animal too. For example, if you know that fireworks upset your animal, the chances are that your stress levels increase as soon as you hear fireworks and this feeds into your animal’s anxiety levels. You can help to create calm by using a meditation. You might like my “Calming Meditation for You and Your Animal”, which helps you to find your own inner calm and then shows you how to share this calmness with your animal. You can find this in my online class “Easy Animal Communication for Anxious Animals”. - How calm is your animal's environment?
Do a quick audit of how easy it is for your animal to relax at home. Time to relax and completely switch off is crucial for any animal's wellbeing. When they are already anxious, too much stimulation can increase their levels of anxiety. Do they have a quiet area where they can take themselves off to rest? Can you create an extra quiet space for them? - Try a 5 minute colour visualisation.
Here's one I used recently in a group healing for animals who are scared by fireworks. Take a moment to sit down quietly without distraction. Allow yourself to take a few slow breaths and think about the colour orange. It can help to have something orange to look at or to hold. Imagine your animal being surrounded by an orange light and this light wrapping itself around them like a warm, gentle hug. Orange is the colour of security and safety and this can help an animal to feel really comforted. If you have an orange blanket that your animal can use, that can be a great way to enhance their experience!
